Let it be known was inspired by a photograph of a young woman in a pink balaclava at Notting Hill carnival taken by the street photographer Emmanuel Cole. Emmanuel gave me permission to use it as a starting point for this piece that explores female assertiveness and taking up space. Its framed with cans of Ting – the whole piece embodies the spirit of Notting Hill Carnival – a place of both empowerment and celebration.
